Aloy Ejimakor, Special Counsel to Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has accused the Nigerian Government of committing “double offense” over the agitator’s arrest.
Ejimakor said detaining Kanu after subjecting him to extraordinary rendition from Kenya is a double offense.
The special counsel explained that such offense can’t stand.
Posting on X, he recalled how Nigerians lost their visa-free travel to the United Kingdom due to the botched rendition of Umaru Dikko in 1984.
According to Ejimakor: “In 1984, Nigerians lost their visa-free travel to the UK because of the botched rendition of Umaru Dikko & it was the rendition of MAZI NNAMDI KANU that got Benin Republic to protect IGBOHO.
“Detaining MNK after renditioning him is a double national offense that should not stand. ”
Kanu has been locked up by the Department of State Services, DSS, since he was arrested and renditioned from Kenya in 2021.
Despite court judgments ordering his release, the DSS has refused to grant him freedom.
