Residents of Owerri, the Imo State Capital are calling on the State Government and the construction company handling the flyover project going on at the control post to speed up the process.
They frowned at the slow pace of work going on at the construction site which has forced motorists to seek alternative routes.
DAILY POST reports that the control post is one of the major roads within the capital city that links people coming from outside the state to the city.
However, residents say the blockage of the road due to the ongoing construction in the area was posing a serious traffic challenge to motorists who now find it difficult to access alternative routes to get to their destinations.
Baring his mind, a commercial driver who gave his name as Christian Chukwuemeka, lamented that before now, it took motorists coming from Port Harcourt or Onitsha less than 30 minutes to hit the metropolis via control post but now it will take over one hour to access the metropolis.
He, however, commended the effort of the state government for initiating the project but advised that more efforts be applied to speed up the project to ease off the traffic challenges faced by motorists.
Another concerned citizen, a retired civil servant from the Ministry of Works, Elder Patrick Ejikeme maintained that the flyover construction is a good idea as it will ease traffic congestion when completed but was worried at the slow pace of work going on at the construction site.
He suggested that it would be very good and commendable if the company handling the project attached more seriousness to accelerate its completion.
Information gathered by our reporter revealed that businesses no longer thrive within the construction area due to the blockade of the major roads.
Filling stations and shop owners are witnessing low patronage as they also joined the call for the speedy completion of the project.
This is also as travellers now embark on a long walk before getting to a place where they will board vehicles to their various destinations.
