Yobe electoral commission postpones LG poll by two weeks

Yobe State Independent Electoral Commission, YOSIEC, has announced the postponement of the May 25, 2024, local government council election.

The executive chairman of the state electoral commission, Mamman Mohammed, announced this while briefing newsmen on the development on Wednesday in Damaturu.

“The May 25, 2024, date of the election, as earlier broadcast, is no longer realistic. Due to logistics issues and other reasons that may impede the seamless, free and fair local government council election in the state, it, therefore, became imperative to adjust the date of the election to June 8, 2024. That is two weeks after the May 25 date.

“On our timetable, the only changes will be the date of the election (8/6/2024) and the time to stop campaign. The announcement of results follows the election.”

DAILY POST recalls that this is the second time the local government election is being postponed by the electoral umpire.

The election was earlier scheduled to take place on November 25, 2023, but was shifted to May 25, 2024 and now to June 8, 2024.
