Insecurity: Adamawa community bans scavengers, restricts movement

Wuro-Chekke, a sprawling residential community in Yola South Local Government Area of Adamawa State, has banned scavengers from operating anywhere within its territory.

The leadership of the community also banned entry by anybody from 11 pm unless prior permission is sought and given.

A meeting of stakeholders on Monday mandated community vigilante operatives and leaders of the community to enforce the order with immediate effect.

Alhaji Sa’ad Mohammed, the village head of Wuro-Chekke, gave the order after the meeting, which discussed the recent abduction of an architect and a journalist residing in the community.

The journalist, Usman Sahabi, a reporter with the Adamawa Broadcasting Corporation, was abducted two weeks ago from his home in Wuro-Chekke and spent six days in captivity before he was released.
