Hamas may continue war despite accepting peace deal – Fani-Kayode warns Israel

Former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode has warned that the war between Israel and Hamas may continue despite the latter’s acceptance of a peace proposal.

Fani-Kayode warned that Hamas will continue the war if Israel refuses to release hostages from Palestine.

He also noted that the war will continue if Israel targets Palestinians in Raffah for slaughter.

Posting on X, the former Aviation Minister wrote: “Hamas has said ‘we accept the peace proposal’. This is great news. Now the ball is in Israel’s court.

“If they say ‘yes’, the hostages will be released, they will come home, there will be a ceasefire and the war will come to an end.

“If they say ‘no’, the hostages will be killed, 1.7 million Palestinians in Raffah will be targeted and slaughtered, Hamas will fight on and the war will continue. The ball is in Bibi’s court.”

Hamas leader, Ismail Haniyeh had informed mediators Qatar and Egypt that the Palestinian militant group had accepted their Gaza truce proposal after nearly seven months of war.

The group in a statement published on its official website, said Haniyeh had spoken on the phone with Qatar’s Prime Minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani and with Egyptian Intelligence Minister, Abbas Kamel, informing them of Hamas’s approval of their proposal regarding a ceasefire agreement.

According to a senior Hamas official, this does not mean that the ceasefire has come into effect yet, pointing out that the Israeli side has not yet communicated its position.
