Lagos-Calabar Highway: Haters stay clear – Niger Delta youths warn Peter Obi, others

Youths of the Niger Delta have issued a warning to the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, and other critics to stay clear of the ongoing Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway initiated by the President Bola Tinubu administration.

The Coordinator of 21st Century Youths of Niger Delta and Agitators with Conscience, Izon Ebi, issued the warning in a statement posted by Tinubu’s special adviser, Bayo Onanuga, on his official X handle on Friday.

The group warned Obi and other critics to desist from discouraging the Federal Government from achieving what they described as the first major landmark project in the Niger Delta.

While the group commended Tinubu for approving the road that would transverse the coastlines of the Niger Delta, it said the highway is both a political and economic masterstroke by the present administration.

The group stressed that the project, when completed, would bring about an economic boom and tourism renaissance in the Niger Delta region.

The statement said: “We are forced to wonder if it’s because the project is not sited in their region or they can no more hide their hate and disdain for the Niger Delta people.

“We, the people of the Niger Delta, support the President’s noble stride, and, on this note, send clear warnings to haters of the Niger Delta to steer clear”.

Recall that Obi had kicked against the project.

However, the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, accused Obi of inciting Igbos against Tinubu’s government.

The Nigerian Federal Government said the highway will cost N2.8 trillion when completed.
