Champions League: Luka Modric surpasses Puskas’ record

Real Madrid ace, Luka Modric, on Tuesday surpassed a Champions League record held by the club’s former player Ferenc Puskas following his side’s semi-final first leg 2-2 draw against Bayern Munich on Tuesday.

The 38-year-old became the oldest player to play a Champions League match in a Real Madrid shirt.

Modric achieved this feat at the age of 38 years and 234 days.

Puskas had previously held the record, having played in the European Cup for Madrid against Kilmarnock at the age of 38 years and 229 days in 1965.

Modric was brought in as a substitute in the 75th minute at the Allianz Arena.

The Croatia international replaced England midfielder Jude Bellingham.

He has made 528 appearances for Real Madrid across all competitions, scoring 39 goals and registering 84 assists.

Modric has not been a regular starter for Madrid under manager Carlo Ancelotti this season.

The former Tottenham Hotspur star will hope to play a part when Madrid host Bayern in the return leg next week.
