Former TUC Chairman in Kaduna State, Paul Yaro Jezhi on Wednesday, called on workers at all levels to continue to demand for increase in wages, salary and other emoluments, as the economy bites harder.
Comrade Paul stated this, in a statement he issued in Kaduna, Wednesday.
According to him, Labour leaders should use the occasion of the “Workers’ Day” to demand policies and programmes that would further enhance the workers” welfare in the country, adding that Nigerian workers are direly in need of decent and sufficient living conditions.
“Nigeria Workers’ Day Celebrations is a significant national holiday that recognises the contribution and sacrifices of Nigerian workers. It provides an opportunity for Nigerian workers to come together, demand their rights and celebrate their hard work and dedication,” he said.
According to him, “the Government of today listens to the grievances of Nigerian workers as there is a shift from the stance of their predecessor, adding that the announcement on the new wage review is a testament to the fact that though the economy is in dwindling mode, one can only hope for better.
“IPMAN should be called to order on their quest for the payment of their debts.
“There can be a better way to pursue their payment without necessarily throwing Nigerian masses into pain and hardship.
Government must deliberately promote policies that have a direct impact in reducing poverty bedevilling Nigerian masses,” Comrade Paul further added
