Transfer: Leon Balogun keen to extend Rangers contract

Rangers defender Leon Balogun is hopeful he will get a contract extension at the Scottish Premiership club.

The Nigerian rejoined the Light Blues on a one-year contract last summer after he was released by Sky Bet Championship club, Queens Park Rangers.

Balogun made his first start for Rangers since February in the Scottish Cup semi-final victory against Heart last Sunday.

The 35-year-old was praised by manager Philippe Clement for his impressive performance in the game.

With his contract set to expire at the end of June, the centre-back is keen to remain at Ibrox.

“I hope so. Have there been talks about my future? Not yet. I don’t know what will happen. I think those decisions will be made within the club within the next few weeks,” Balogun was quoted by the Daily Record.

“I hope I get a notification a bit more timely than the last time around! I would like to think I can be quite positive, touching on the manager choosing me on Sunday, but I can’t really tell you, I don’t know yet.”

Balogun has made 16 appearances across all competitions for the Light Blues this season.
