Manchester United manager, Erik ten Hag, has insisted that their penalty shoot-out win over Coventry was not embarrassing.
The Red Devils had a three-goal lead by the 71st minute, but the game ended 3-3 with Haji Wright converting a last-gasp penalty.
The Championship side had a late goal ruled out in extra time, before United went on to win on penalties.
Ten Hag was asked whether it was embarrassing to win the match in the way they did against a team who had lost three of their previous four games.
He replied: “No, I can’t see that. At the end of the day it’s about achievement. I see the mistakes we make, but it’s not an embarrassment, it’s a huge achievement.
“[The players] see that there are mixed feelings. We allowed them to return to the game and it’s completely unnecessary.”
