Gov Kefas expresses concern over abandoned Ibi Bridge project in Taraba

The abandoned construction work on Ibi Bridge in Ibi Local Government Council of Taraba State, has become a source of concern to Governor Agbu Kafes.

The federal government project, which DAILY POST learnt is aimed at bolstering educational and economic opportunities in Taraba State, has been stalled by financial challenges.

Originally awarded to RCC Construction in 2020 by the Federal Government at a cost of N57 billion, the project had encountered financial difficulties from the outset.

The governor at the weekend visited the project site alongside the former Chief of Army Staff, General Theophilus Y. Danjuma (retd) expressed worries over the stoppage of work on the project.

He stressed the need for collaboration to pursue the project to a logical conclusion.

The governor further noted that the implication of starting a project of such magnitude and abandoning it, is enormous.

The abandonment of the project, he said, contributes to flooding, adding that it will make it difficult to plan the security network of the area.

Some stakeholders reiterated their readiness to support the governor to bring the presence of the federal government back to the project.

Meanwhile, metal scavengers from the town were observed to have taken control of the construction site, stripping the project of valuable steel materials.

Their brazen actions have extended to the bridge pillars. They were utilising heavy equipment to dismantle them and extract iron rods.

This vandalism worries Governor Kefas and other stakeholders.
