Butcher remanded in custody over alleged theft

A Kafanchan magistrates’ court in Kaduna State, on Thursday, ruled that 24-year-old butcher Bashar Adam be remanded at a correctional facility over alleged theft.

The defendant whose home address was withheld is being prosecuted for suspected theft and mischief.

The complainant, Badamasi Ibrahim, brought the incident to the attention of the NSCDC’s prosecutor, Marcus Audu, at the court on October 16.

Audu said the defendant had stolen the truck’s wiring and vandalized the complainant’s vehicle, which was parked on Magajiya Street.

He alleged that members of a vigilante group apprehended the defendant and handed him over to the Civil Defence Corps personnel.

He told the court that the offence contravened the Kaduna State Penal Code Law.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Magistrate, Michael Bawa, ordered the defendant to be remanded in a correctional centre.

Bawa adjourned the matter until Nov. 21 for a hearing.
