Zamfara: Okada riders block major roads, protest killing of member over refusal to pay N50 levy

The commercial motorcycle riders in Zamfara State have blocked major roads leading to the town due to the killing of one of their members over non-payment of a N50 daily due enforced by the union.

According to Usman Muhammad, a commercial motorcycle rider, one of their members lost his life when he refused to pay the N50 daily dues imposed by the union officials.

“The deceased refused to abide by the Motorcycle Riders Association’s rule, and in an attempt to escape, a fight ensued, which led to his death,” he added.

Muhammad further stated that the motorcycle riders mobilised and blocked major roads, preventing motorists from proceeding with their legitimate endeavours.

DAILY POST reports that many motorists were unable to navigate through the situation, with those attempting to pass having their windscreens smashed by the angry motorcycle riders.

Efforts to reach the State Police Command’s spokesman, ASP Yazid Abdulahi, proved futile, as his phone lines were unreachable.
