Gov Lawal orders renovation of Zamfara State Specialist Hospital

Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has approved the immediate remodelling and renovation of the Yeriman Bakura Specialist Hospital.

According to Sulaiman Idris, the governor’s spokesperson, the decision, made during the state’s 19th Executive Council meeting at the Government House in Gusau, aims to address the growing need for tertiary medical services in the state.

Idris stated that the hospital has long suffered from disrepair and inadequate medical equipment, forcing patients to seek critical medical services in neighbouring states like Sokoto or Kaduna.

He said that remodelling plans include constructing new structures, installing modern medical equipment, and end-user training.

These efforts aim to transform the hospital into a modern healthcare facility capable of providing high-quality services to the people of Zamfara State.

“The Specialist Hospital has been in a state of disrepair for a long time and has inadequate medical equipment.

“As a result, patients have had to travel to Sokoto or Kaduna for kidney dialysis and other critical medical tests.

“As part of the hospital’s remodelling plan, new structures and medical facilities will be built, machines will be installed and end-user training will be provided to make the Specialist Hospital a modern and standard facility that will provide quality healthcare services to the people of the state.

“During the council meeting, several other crucial matters were also discussed. One of the main topics of discussion was the state social protection policy, which aims to bring together various social protection interventions that align with the vision of Zamfara State as one of Nigeria’s development hubs.

“The policy sets out a clear set of strategies and policies to help guide public and private investments in social protection,” Idris stated.
