The Acting Executive Chairman, Benue State Internal Revenue Service, BIRS, Emmanuel Agema has warned staff of the board to shun corruption and deliver selfless service to encourage taxpayers to have confidence in taxation in the state.
Agema gave the warning while interacting with journalists at his office yesterday in Makurdi.
He said taxpayers will have more confidence in the system when the revenue generated is properly channelled to developmental projects, adding that only a disciplined tax organization can help eradicate any form of corruption.
He said his administration has zero tolerance for corruption and that staff would benefit more by doing things right, noting that taxpayers will be discouraged when they see revenue collectors living flamboyant lifestyles.
”Taxpayers will naturally get discouraged from paying taxes if the taxes are mismanaged, my administration would go after any staff of the board with the intent to sabotage government efforts in bringing about dividends of democracy to Benue people through corrupt enrichment.
”BIRS under my leadership will continue to contribute its quota to develop the state by ensuring that revenue sources are properly harnessed to support the present administration to bring about the needed development of the state”.
