Hon Akor Prince Nna, the lawmaker who represents the ward of former Governor Nyesom Wike in Obio/Akpor Local Government in the Rivers State House of Assembly, has announced his resignation.
The lawmaker stated that he is backing Governor Siminalayi Fubara in the ongoing power tussle in the state.
He has stepped down from his position as Leader of the House in the Legislative Council.
This was detailed in a letter dated March 6 and addressed to the Executive Chairman, Obio/Akpor Legislative Council, Rumu Odomaya, Rivers State.
The letter reads, “Let me begin by thanking the leadership and good people of Ward 9 in particular, and Obio/Akpor Local Government area in general, for this great opportunity to serve as the leader of our dear Local Government Legislative Council.
“Permit me to also thank His Excellency, Chief Bar E. N. Wike, for primarily giving me the opportunity to represent him as a councilor in his ward before ascending to the position of the Leader of the Legislative Council.
“Having said this, Mr. Chairman, may I most respectfully inform you that I have resigned my position as the Leader of Obio/Akpor Legislative Council and as a councilor representing the good people of Ward 9.
“This resignation stems from my personal conviction to align with the truth amidst the current political issues in Rivers State, coupled with the unwarranted intimidation, marginalization, coercion, bullying, and arm-twisting from some Leaders of Obio/Akpor Local Government.
Senator Dino Melaye once said, ‘If you speak the truth, you die. If you lie, you die. Better to speak the truth and die.’
“My Chairman, I want to align with the progressive minds to liberate and develop Rivers State in tune with the SIMplified Movement.
“Let it be known that this resignation will not negate my earlier resolve to work in harmony with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s RENEWED HOPE agenda.
“I will support the State Government in any way to realize the dreams of Mr. President, as well as to establish and foster peace, development, and empowerment for the people of Rivers State.
“Once again, I remain grateful to the leadership and people of Ward 9. God bless the good people of Ward 9, God bless the good people of Obio/Akpor, and God bless our dear Party, the Peoples Democratic Party.”
