The Benue State Police Command says its operatives have recovered at least eight corpses following a clash between two militia gangs in Gbagir community of Ukum Local Government Area of the state.
DAILY POST earlier reported how two rival militia groups clashed in the community, leading to the death of at least 45 persons.
Trouble started after a Benue militia leader in Ukum LGA allegedly kidnapped a Taraba militia leader, one Alhaji Gana, and his family members.
According to reports, the abductees, from the neighbouring Chinkai community in Wukari LGA of Taraba State, were known for banditry and kidnapping.
A local source alleged that the Benue militia demanded N100 million ransom from the abductees but N5 million was eventually paid.
When contacted by DAILY POST, the Benue State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Catherine Anene, confirmed the attack.
The PPRO, who confirmed the recovery of corpses, said the Command has commenced investigation to unravel the root cause of the incident.
She said, “Information was received about an attack on a community in Ukum. Upon arrival, eight corpses were recovered. Investigation is ongoing.”
