Man arraigned in court for attempted murder, armed robbery

A High Court sitting in Umuahia, on Tuesday, arraigned one Promise Ikechukwu Ogbonna, a native of Olokoro in Umuahia South Local Government Area of Abia State on four count charges.

The charges bordered on conspiracy to wit: armed robbery contrary to Section 6, armed robbery: contrary to section 1(2) (a) of the robbery and firearms (special provision).

Other charges are: attempted murder: contrary to section 320 (a) of the Criminal Code and malicious damage: contrary to section 451(5) (g) of the Criminal Code.

Appearing before the High Court in Umuahia on Tuesday, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the four charges.

The Presiding Judge, Justice K.C.J Okereke, denied the prayer of the Counsel to the defendant for his client to be granted bail but adjourned the matter to 26th March, 2024 for trial.

Addressing newsmen, Chinasa Ogbonna, whose brother was allegedly shot by Promise Ikechukwu Ogbonna and his gang, described Promise as a menace to Olokoro community, Abia and Nigeria at large.

He alleged that the defendant was involved in cultism, armed robbery and other crimes, adding that he was always released from police detention in the past by some powerful people.

He urged the witnesses to come forward to the Court and testify on the matter.
