Driver docked for alleged manslaughter, reckless driving

A 45-year-old driver, Danladi Umar, has been docked in a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court for alleged reckless driving and manslaughter.

The defendant whose address was not given, is charged with manslaughter and reckless driving.

The prosecutor, ASP Clément Okuiomose, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Feb.4, at about 7.45pm at Magbon Bus Stop, on the Lagos Badagry expressway.

Okuiomose said the defendant drove a Boxer Bus with registration number SMK 391 YA, in a dangerous and reckless manner on the highway.

The prosecutor said the defendant drove recklessly causing the death of Oyelowo Ashade.

The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of sections 18 and 27 of RTA CAP 124, Law of Lagos State of Nigeria.

The defendant pleaded not guilty.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr N A Layeni, admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.

He said one of the sureties must be a community leader while the other must be a religious leader in his community.
Layeni adjourned the case until March 14, for a hearing.
