The legislative arm of the Doma Local Government Area of Nasarawa State has demanded the financial statement of the LGA from October 2021 to date.
Following the request, there are speculations that there is tension and apprehension among the leadership of the LGA.
In a letter addressed to the Director of Personnel Management, the Speaker of the Legislative Arm, Igbabo Albert Rabo, said the request was based on a resolution passed during an emergency sitting held on Tuesday, February 13 in Doma.
The statement is expected to cover subventions, ecological funds, project funds, and records of the Internally Generated Revenue, IGR, in the council among others.
Mr. Igbabo directed the DPM to liaise with the Director of Finance and Supplies to provide the financial statement, citing provisions of the Nasarawa State Local Government Law 2018, as amended.
The statement is to be submitted through the Chairman of the Committee on or before Thursday, February 15, 2024.
DAILY POST findings indicate that the council Chairman, Architect Ahmad Sarki Usman, and other officials are apprehensive about the councillors’ move to ensure accountability in the management of public funds.
However, Usman’s supporters maintain that he is the most transparent and accountable leader to have ever managed the affairs of the council, with his tenure due to expire in October.
