Popular businessman, socialite kills wife, commits suicide in Ondo

Tragedy struck in Akure, Ondo State capital, on Friday night when a popular oil and gas merchant and socialite, Sesan Adelabu, butchered his wife, Bolu, to death.

The incident which occurred in their residence in the highbrow area of Alagbaka has left many wondering what went wrong between the two lovebirds.

According to sources in the area, Adelabu, popularly known as “Shessy Emirate” within the social circle, inflicted a series of machete cuts on his wife after he allegedly caught her having an affair.

After brutally butchering her to death, Emirate, who owns chains of gas and filling stations, was said to have driven out of his house to buy a deadly insecticide known as Sniper.

On getting back to the house, he drank the substance, after which he gave up the ghost.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Abayomi Oladipo, has ordered an immediate investigation into the incident.

Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer, Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, disclosed that the homicide section of the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, will take over the case.

“On the 9th of February, 2024, a distress call was received by the police of A’ Division Akure by men of the Special Protection Unit.

“The officer attached to the deceased in his house in the Alagbaka area of Akure received a call from the deceased child around 6 p.m. asking after his father.

“When he was not picking up his calls, the policeman, while trying to inform his principal, discovered him face down and lifeless in the toilet, while his wife’s body was found on the bed with multiple cuts suspected to be machete cuts on her head and face.

“An empty container of snipers was also found at the scene,” she said.

Meanwhile, the bodies of the deceased couple have been deposited at the mortuary.
