Former Super Eagles forward Daniel Amokachi has expressed satisfaction with the standard of football on display at the ongoing 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
The 2023 AFCON has recorded some shocking results with former champions, Ghana and Algeria exiting the competition in the group stage.
Holders Senegal, and multiple champions Egypt and Morocco also failed to make it beyond the Round of 16.
The Super Eagles of Nigeria, Bafana Bafana of South Africa, and hosts Cote d’Ivoire are now the only former champions left in the competition.
“The competition has been a sexy one, it’s good for African football. All the teams that qualified for the last World Cup as well as the teams that make it to the last stage in Cameroon have been knocked out,” Amokachi said at an event in Abidjan on Wednesday.
“The number of goals scored in the group stage is also more than what was recorded in the last two editions. That’s an indication that football is growing in Africa.
“We just have to keep respecting the good job the coaches, the players and federations are doing.”
