The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC, says N99.94 billion was received by 11 electricity Distribution Companies, DisCos, from customers as revenue from the N133.3 billion worth of electricity they consumed in November, 2023.
NERC, in the factsheet it released on its official X account, stated that the average amount paid by Kilowatt hour (kWh) of electricity consumed during the period was 36.71kWh from the average 59.89kWh approved for the DisCos to charge their customers.
The factsheet showed that Ikeja Electric had the highest billing with N20.94 billion bills issued out but was able to collect N20.17 billion, a 96.30 per cent collection rate.
This was followed by Eko Electric with N20.09 billion, but received N16.81 billion from its customers, which was an 83.72 per cent collection rate. Abuja Electric was next with N19.61 billion bill sent out while N15.34 billion was paid, a 78.24 per cent collection rate.
Ibadan Electric followed with N15.69 billion bill sent out while N11 billion was paid, 70.10 per cent collection; with Benin sending out a N10.92 billion bill but collecting N7.6 billion, a 69.68 per cent rate.
Enugu Electric also sent out N9.75 billion invoice but only N8.05 billion was paid back, which is an 82.65 per cent collection rate, while Port Harcourt Electric gave out a N9.13 billion bill but received N6.77 billion, a 74.22 per cent collection rate.
Kano Electric issued out N8.14 billion but received N5.02 billion, a 62.05 per cent collection rate, followed by Jos Electric with N4.03 billion paid from the N7.44 billion bill issued out, 54.24 per cent. Yola Electric gave out N6.53 billion but N2.24 billion was paid, a 34.35 per cent rate; and Kaduna Electric issued N5.16 billion from which N2.87 billion was paid, a 55.73 per cent collection rate.
NERC noted that the 26 electricity generation plants generated 3,167.16GWh of electricity during the period with an average hourly generation of 4,398.83MWh/h, adding that the plants had an average available capacity of 5,076.39MW.
DisCos received N99.94bn out of N133.3bn worth of electricity consumed in November 2023 – NERC
