We saved N2bn worth of property in 2023 – Adamawa Fire Service

The Adamawa Fire Service says it has saved property valued over N2 billion during several fire incidences in the state in 2023.

The Director, Adamawa Fire Service, Adamu Abdullahi, made this revelation in an interview with newsmen on Monday in Yola.

Abdullahi, however, said that property valued at about N3 million was lost to 133 fire incidents during the period under review.

He said the state fire directorate in 2023, recorded 10 deaths during a boat mishap rescue operation in three local government areas of Fufure, Yola and Numan, respectively.

He said: “For boat mishaps, we also rescued 17 passengers.

“The directorate is doing its best to sensitise the public and is always ready to respond to emergencies.”

Abdullahi, however, said lack of modern fire fighting equipment, chemicals, fire hydrant, adequate power and utility van, were hindering quick response to emergency situations.

He admonished the general public to always endeavour to switch off electrical appliances when not in use to avoid fire outbreaks.

“Especially now we are in harmattan period, we should also be careful because all places are dry; fire can ignite easily and stop indiscriminate bush burning,” he said.
