The Senator representing the FCT, Ireti Kingibe, has said there is a need for a more structured approach to community policing if the insecurity in the nation’s capital can be checked.
She gave the suggestion during an appearance on a Channels Television programme, “Sunday Politics.”
Speaking on the botched CCTV Camera contract totalling $470m in the FCT, Kingibe revealed that the Chinese government did its bit in installation but the Nigerian government did not make any provisions to operate the cameras.
She assured that the National Assembly would soon get to the root of the matter.
Senator Kingibe, who is the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Women Affairs, also suggested closer monitoring of the borders of the FCT, believing that there was much criminal activity at the communities bordering other states.
She said a combination of community and regular policing, holds the key to solving FCT’s security challenges.
