Sule vs Ombugadu: Nasarawa APC, PDP sign fresh peace accord

Leaders of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Nasarawa State have come together to sign a renewed peace accord.

This development precedes the eagerly awaited Supreme Court verdict on the gubernatorial election dispute in the state.

The signing ceremony took place on Monday at the Nigeria Police Command Headquarters in Lafia, where both party leaders engaged in discussions centred on reinforcing their commitment to the security of the state.

Following the signing, Douglas Otaru, the Publicity Secretary of the APC, issued a statement emphasising the need for civility and decorum among party members.

Otaru urged supporters to refrain from making statements that could incite passion and cautioned against unauthorized disclosures related to the Supreme Court proceedings.

“On no account should any party member or supporter author or publish unauthorized statements from any quarters, be it on social or mainstream media platforms,” cautioned Otaru.

He said statements on court proceedings must be verified and approved by the party hierarchy before publication, urging supporters to maintain calmness and avoid any actions that could undermine the peace and stability of the state before, during, and after the Supreme Court judgment.

In a bid to ensure compliance with security agencies’ directives, he called on party members to adhere strictly to instructions.

The statement extended an appeal to the opposition PDP and its supporters, urging them to honour the peace treaty, observe civility and maintain decorum in the interest of peace.

“Let it be known to us all that there must be a peaceful Nasarawa State for all before either APC or PDP can govern her,” the statement reads further.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court on Monday, January 16, reserved judgment in the appeal filed by PDP seeking redress on the appeal court judgement which nullified the judgement of the election tribunal that unseated Sule as the governor of Nasarawa State.
