Arapasopo emerges new Osun NLC chairman

A new chairman has emerged for the Osun State Council of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC.

Christopher Arapasopo was elected as the Osun NLC Chairman in a keenly contested election held during the 7th Triennial Delegates Congress in Osogbo on Wednesday.

Arapasopo, the Osun State Chairman of the Nigeria Civil Service Union, polled 270 votes to defeat his closest rival, Olumide Faniran, who polled 232 votes.

He was declared the winner of the election by Olatunji Ambali, the National Treasurer of NLC and the National President of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Workers.

Delegates from 32 affiliate industrial unions in the state participated in the election.

The new Osun State NLC chairman promised to accord the necessary priority to workers’ welfare.

“We will resuscitate Civil Service Week and embark on a resuscitation of Productivity Day and the Elders/Leaders Forum to serve as a think tank for Congress,” he pledged.

Meanwhile, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has charged the newly elected Osun NLC chairman to consider his election as a crucial responsibility of representing and advocating for the welfare of the hardworking labour force in the state.

In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, Governor Adeleke expressed his readiness to collaborate closely with the NLC under the leadership of Arapasopo.

“Under my leadership, the state government remains committed to serving the people of Osun State with dedication and integrity. My administration will continue to prioritise the welfare of the citizens and work towards fostering an environment of sustainable development and progress.

“However, I look forward to a constructive and fruitful partnership with Comrade Christopher Abimbola Arapasopo and the entire NLC as we collectively strive to enhance the quality of life for the people of Osun State,” the governor said.
