Osun NASS members urged to fairly distribute Tinubu’s palliatives to residents

The Chairman of the Inter-party Advisory Council, IPAC, Wale Adebayo, has urged members of the National Assembly from Osun State to ensure the proper distribution of food palliatives to the people of the state.

He said this in a statement on Monday in Osogbo, the state capital.

DAILY POST recalls that President Bola Tinubu had made available food palliatives to Nigerians during the Yuletide.

In the statement issued by the Osun IPAC Secretary, Oluwatosin Odeyemi, Adebayo said food palliative, which include bags of rice and other edible commodities, were given to all National Assembly members by President Tinubu during the yuletide period.

He said the intention behind the government’s palliative programmes was to assist the people who were struggling to afford basic necessities for their survival.

”We commend some few federal lawmakers that have done the needful at their constituencies by sharing what was given to each of them at the centre.

”The removal of subsidy on petroleum had affected people’s lives with families struggling to make ends meet and the government is trying to provide some relief,” Adebayo said.

According to him, the council appealed to some federal lawmakers from Osun to urgently distribute the items at their disposal to members of their constituencies.

”The masses are hungry, and we can’t pretend about it. The President has rolled out palliatives and funds to ameliorate the sufferings of the people and cushion the effects of the subsidy removal.

”We want these lawmakers to wake up by ensuring the items are delivered to the corridor of their constituents as soon as possible,” he said.

Adebayo, however, said the palliatives should be distributed fairly and efficiently to ensure accountability.

”In some cases, palliatives have been found to be mismanaged or even stolen by corrupt officials and this is unacceptable and must be prevented,” he added.
