Erstwhile Cote d’Ivoire forward, Arouna Kone has named the Super Eagles of Nigeria among the favourites to win the title at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Super Eagles are targeting a fourth title at the upcoming competition which will be hosted by Cote d’Ivoire.
Kone, who was part of the Elephants squad that defeated the Super Eagles at the 2006 AFCON finals picked Jose Peseiro’s men among the seven title contenders to claim the title.
“I would say at first glance Ivory Coast. I’m not saying it because I’m Ivorian. But I say it because we have quality in our team,” the former Everton man told Sport Ivoire.
“Next to Ivory Coast, there are the Lions of Téranga, reigning champions and the Atlas Lions of Morocco who had an exceptional performance during the World Cup in Qatar.
“After those, there are the natural favourites who will have their say. I want to talk about Cameroon, Nigeria, and Ghana without forgetting Egypt with seven continental titles.
The 34th edition of the AFCON will be hosted by Cote d’Ivoire from January 13 to February 11.
