Governor Godwin Obaseki says 70 per cent of items imported into Nigeria can be produced in Edo State.
Obaseki disclosed this in his speech at the ongoing 2023 Alaghodaro-Edo State Summit.
According to him, with adequate private-public sector partnership, the state can be the production hub of Nigeria.
He added that if all states across the Federation can tackle production challenges, the problem of foreign exchange would be a thing of the past.
“70 per cent of what Nigeria imported outside the country is produced in Edo State”, he said.
According to the National Bureau of Statistics, in the second quarter of 2023, Nigeria’s total trade stood at N12,741.96 billion, total exports stood at N7,015.71 billion, and total imports amounted to N5,726.25 billion.
