385 graduates bag first class in UNIBEN’s combined convocation

The Management of the University of Benin, UNIBEN, says a total of 385 students bagged first class honours in the 2021/2022 and 2022/2023 combined convocation of the University.

DAILY POST reports that 206 students bagged first class in 2021/2022 while 179 first class bagged first class in 2022/2023.

The Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Lilian Salami disclosed this on Monday at the 49th/50 convocation and 54th Founders’ day media briefing in Benin City.

Salami also disclosed that a total of 20,630 students would bag first degrees, Postgraduate Diplomas, Masters and PhDs at the combined convocation ceremonies.

She gave the breakdown of the graduands as 10,609 for 2021/2022 academic session and 10,021 for 2022/2023 academic session.

She said the award of first and higher degrees are scheduled between November 22 and November 23, 2024.

Salam also announced conferment of Professors Emeritus on seven distinguished academics as well on the university’s honourary degrees on three Nigerian personalities.

“It is gratifying to state that the university of Benin continues to beam its searchlight internally and nationwide to identify and honour distinguished personalities found worthy to be conferred with the recognition as Professors Emeritus and Honorary Doctorate Degrees.

“Seven distinguished Professors have been approved by the Senate of the University to be recipients of the honour of Professors Emeritus at this year’s convocation,” she said.

Salami, however, added that the convocation ceremonies would be her last as the vice-chancellor of the school.
