2026 WCQ: Super Eagles suffer major injury blow ahead South Africa, Benin fixtures

Super Eagles of Nigeria have suffered a major injury blow ahead of their 2026 World Cup Qualifiers against South Africa and Benin Republic in June.

This comes after Porto coach Sérgio Conceição gave an injury update on Nigeria’s first choice left-back Zaidu Sanusi at the weekend.

Speaking at his post-match press conference after Porto’s 2-0 win over Estrela da Amadora in a Liga Portugal tie on Saturday, Conceição did not bring good news on the injury sustained by Sanusi.

Sanusi, who is set to miss the remainder of the season, was stretchered off the pitch in the first half against the visitors after complaining about his left knee.

“I think it is serious, it comes from a clear foul and that play causes the injury,” Sérgio Conceição said as quoted by A Bola after the game.

“We are having little luck with the refereeing, anyway, it happened… We are sad for Zaidu, I think the season is over for him and we are shaken by this situation, which was to be avoided, as it was a clear foul and we were left without a player for the rest of the time.”
