2026 WCQ: Disappointed Finidi shifts attention to Benin Republic clash

Super Eagles head coach, Finidi George has said his team must now put behind them Friday’s disappointing draw against South Africa and concentrate on the upcoming match against Benin Republic.

The West Africans held the visitors to a 1-1 draw in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matchday three encounter in Uyo.

Thembo Zwane gave South Africa the lead in the first half.

Hatayspor midfielder, Fisayo Dele -Bashiru however equalised for the Super Eagles immediately after the break.

The three-time African champions have now drawn their third consecutive game in the qualifiers and sit in fifth position on the Group C log.

Finidi said his side were sloppy at the beginning of the game.

“We started sloppily in the first half, we took over the game immediately, we scored in the second half,” Finidi told reporters after the game.

“We missed chances, overall it was not a bad second half for us. The players reacted well in the second half, but it was not the best result we wanted, we have to get our heads up and work for the next game (Benin Republic). I am not happy about the point.”
