2026 WCQ: Awoniyi ruled out of Super Eagles vs Zimbabwe clash over injury

Nottingham Forest forward, Taiwo Awoniyi will miss Nigeria’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Zimbabwe with a groin injury.

Awoniyi sustained the injury in the Super Eagles’ 1-1 draw against Lesotho on Thursday night in Uyo.

The 26-year-old was replaced by OGC Nice star, Terem Moffi a minute before the hour mark.

The former Liverpool player has left the Super Eagles Four Points Hotel base in Uyo and is heading back to his club for further assessment of the injury.

It would be recalled that Awoniyi recently returned to action after picking a groin injury in Nottingham Forest’s Premier League clash against Crystal Palace in September.
